Telling the story of gun violence and prevention from the community perspective

Planning is underway now for the second stage of the Credible Messenger Reporting Project

The Credible Messenger Reporting Project trains, compensates and empowers people impacted by gun violence in Philadelphia to produce and distribute news reports addressing its root causes, their lived experience and possible solutions from the community perspective, with guidance from professional journalists.

The first cohort concluded recently, you can find much of their reporting on our home page and more will be published soon.

The Center was also recently awarded new funding to expand the program in the coming year. Stakeholder calls and project planning are underway now and there will be a call for entries in November to support reporting next spring for release next summer.

We are also collaborating with partners in several other cities about developing a replicable plan to support Credible Messenger Reporters across the nation.
