L. Caroline Suarez - Project Management Associate at the Philadelphia Center For Gun Violence Reporting

Caroline Suárez is the Project Management Associate at the Philadelphia Center for Gun Violence Reporting. She first joined PCGVR as a Project Manager for the Survivor Connection in May 2024 and soon after became a core staff member. In her current role, she continues to support the Survivor Connection project while also contributing to key initiatives, staff coordination, event production, and other responsibilities crucial to PCVGR’s mission.

Caroline previously served as a Community News intern at PhillyCAM and completed her master’s degree capstone at DayOneNotDayTwo—an organization dedicated to empowering North Philadelphia youth, where she helped develop a community-centered newsroom to reshape historical narratives and hold local news organizations accountable.

As a communication strategist, Caroline applies her skills in community engagement, media, and journalism. Over the past two decades, Caroline has led national communication strategies for peace-building initiatives in Colombia, including the Montes de María Peace and Development Program, focused on strengthening democracy, reshaping media narratives, and amplifying communities’ underrepresented voices during the war. She also worked as a Communications Specialist for the Local Justice for Peace project, one of the first post-conflict initiatives that emerged after the signing of the Havana Peace Agreement between the FARC guerrilla and the Colombian government, as well as for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

Caroline has served as a communication coordinator for the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the Colombian Presidential Program for Indigenous Issues, where she played key roles developing participatory research studies in policy initiatives such as the Colombia’s Indigenous Television Public Policy and the Indigenous Communication National Policy. Through the Gabo Foundation, she also collaborated with national journalists and their newsrooms, coordinating the Media and Democracy Alliance.

Originally from the Caribbean, Caroline is a yoga practitioner who loves exploring diverse cultural expressions—from cultural and music festivals to art galleries and museums, as well as farmers’ markets and natural landscapes.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication and Journalism from Universidad del Norte (Colombia) and a master’s in Communication for Development and Social Change from Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication.
